Labour Staff Economy Network

Standard

About the Labour Staff Economy Network:

The Labour Staff Economy Network (LSEN) brings together Labour staff interested in progressive economic policy. Our group provides:

  • Regular events with government ministers, MPs and policy experts, in Parliament and online
  • Opportunities to connect with other Labour staff, MPs and NGOs
  • A safe space to ask questions, learn from each other, and explore policy ideas

You don’t need to be an economist or to be based in parliament to join – we welcome all levels of knowledge as well as constituency staff.

How to Join

If you would like to join LSEN please email labour.staff.economy.network@gmail.com with your name, who you work for and your mobile number. Once verified as a Labour staffer, you will be added to our WhatsApp group and kept up to date with our up coming activities.

UK Parliamentary Chess Club

Standard

The UK Parliamentary Chess Club was re-launched following the Lords vs Commons match which took place in the Speaker’s House in the spring of 2023.

In the summer of 2024, the Speaker of the House of Commons Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP very kindly agreed to become the Club Patron, granting them the ability to meet and play in Portcullis House on every Monday evening 6-7.30pm when Parliament is in session.

The club is open to Members of the House of Commons and the Lords along with all staffers who work on the estate; if you are interested in joining please contact the club captain Peter Hornsby at hornsbyp@parliament.uk or on 07528665226.

All ages and abilities are welcome, they have a huge range of players so you certainly don’t need to be a Magnus Carlsen or Judith Polgar!”

Women’s Parliamentary Football Team

Standard

The Women’s Parliamentary Football Team trains on Wednesday mornings from 0800 to 0900 and they have 5-a-side matches on Mondays for 30 mins in a league.

The football team is a great group to have fun, make friends and get some exercise before / after work!  We’ve had amazing events too, such as hosting the Women’s Afghan Refugee Football Team, training at Tottenham Hotspurs stadium and a match against Camden FC.

If you’re interested in joining, please email Hannah.short@parliament.uk with your phone number &  the name of who you work for.

Re-launch of the Women’s Parliamentary Cricket Team

Standard

Two years ago today, Meg Williams organised the successful inaugural event which took place at Lord’s Cricket Ground, and later that summer a small team took part in their first soft ball cricket tournament.  Needless to say, the last two years have been particularly busy, but with the light at the end of the tunnel in sight, this month will see the re-launch of the team.

With this in mind, the WPCT would be delighted if you are able to attend the first event on Monday 12 April, at 15h00 with Clare Connor, incoming President of the MCC, Managing Director Women’s Cricket, ECB and Former England captain for our virtual Cricket and Coffee event.

The team is for all abilities, whether you are new to the game, a professional or just have a passion for the sport and would like to get involved and learn more – open to MPs, Peers and staff of both.

The aim of this event is recruit members of the Women’s Parliamentary Cricket Team, with the aim of setting up a regular training schedule, ready for some fixtures, as well as social events throughout the year.

To RSVP to the event, or if you would like to get involved with the team please email meg.williams@parliament.uk.

Parliamentary Netball Group

Standard

A parliamentary staffer is looking to start a cross-party, mixed gender/ability Parliament netball team.

It’s all at a very early stage but they are hoping to form a team which can play weekly in a league just across the river in Archbishop’s Park or in Victoria.

They would also like to host socials and parliamentary events – in collab with England Netball – to help raise the sport’s profile and to build a strong network of staffers, MPs, peers, journalists, and thinktank members.

Please watch this space for further information and contact details.
