Just a note (via Politico’s Westminster Playbook) that you should get out the iron today if you work in Westminster — parliamentary photographer Mark Duffy will be capturing today’s happenings to update the official library images of Commons proceedings.

Reporting from Party Conference
StandardDeHavilland, the UK political monitoring service, is seeking freelance writers to attend the Labour, Conservative and SNP conferences this autumn.
They want people to work alongside DeHavilland’s Content team to provide clear and concise written reports of fringe events – typically two to three events per day, subject to scheduling and demand, and will pay £50 per event covered.
You will need:
- Previous writing experience, such as covering events and providing reports
- A strong interest in UK politics/journalism
- An excellent eye for detail and a high standard of written English
- Willingness to adhere to a house writing style
- Experience of working to tight deadlines
Ideally, you will already be planning to attend the relevant conference(s), and will have a pass arranged, although fringe events situated outside the ‘secure zone’ will not require this. However, a pass is essential for SNP Conference.
If you’re interested, send a brief CV outlining relevant experience (max 1 page) and a short covering letter (max 1 page), to: mike.indian@dehavilland.co.uk. Please indicate which conference(s) you would like to be considered for in the subject of your email (for example, ‘Party Conference Reporter – Labour Conference’).
You need to tell them whether you have applied for a pass for the relevant conference(s).
Please note: you will need to make all of your own travel, accommodation and conference pass arrangements. DeHavilland is unable to meet the cost of these.

MPs who have crossed the floor..
StandardThe Commons Library has just published a useful list with details of when a Member has changed allegiance from one political party to another or decided to sit as an independent MP. Instances of Members losing or resigning a party whip are also noted.
They would like your help: as they say, ‘Due to the difficulties in compiling a comprehensive list of all floor-crossings, whip withdrawals and whip resignations, this list cannot be guaranteed to be definitive. We are always happy to hear of any additions or amendments to the list. Please email papers@parliament.uk with any comments.’

Take home pay calculator
StandardIn the UK, salaries are always quoted as gross and figuring out your take home net pay or gross to net salary is your responsibility. This site has calculated carefully all possible gross annual salaries to give you the net salary you will take home. The net salaries are calculated to show the exact amount you will take home after the income tax and national insurance contributions for 2018-2019. You can also check hourly wage calculator which is useful especially for students.

World Cup Action
StandardAmidst the petabytes of press coverage of the World Cup, Politico has done the one useful thing of finding out where best to watch matches in the vicinity of Westminster (we assume those working in constituency offices have enough local knowledge to track down a screen).
