Find out more about how the Commons Library supports you to support constituents.

Read and share constituency casework articles

You can find constituency casework articles on the Library website. These articles are designed to help you answer constituents’ queries, and as they are published online you can share them with your constituents too. They cover the following areas:

The Library regularly updates and adds articles so you can sign up for email alerts or bookmark the pages to stay up to date.

Explore constituency and local area data

The Library publishes datasets and tools to help you find out more about your local area. You can use the Library’s interactive constituency dashboard to explore information about parliamentary constituencies, including unemployment, house prices and election results.

Request information and research

If you can’t find what you need on the Library website, you can request information and research from the Library team. Subject specialists can help answer your questions on casework or anything else related to your role. All requests are confidential – details aren’t shared beyond the Library.

Join online caseworker discussion groups

The Library runs regular online caseworker discussion groups. These groups are an opportunity to meet other caseworkers and share experiences and best practice. They are also a chance to find out more about the support available to you from the House of Commons.

If you’re interested in joining, or if you have any questions, please email [email protected].

Come to Library talks online

The online Library talks programme covers constituency casework, statistics, and topical issues. You can browse and book upcoming Library talks by subject specialists (and watch previous talks and download presentations) on ACT.

Access books, journals, and databases

The Library provides a huge range of books, journals, and databases to support constituency work. This includes subscriptions to Grantfinder and Rightsnet. The Library also provides free training and guidance on using these resources.

Learn about Member and constituency etiquette

The Library’s briefing on Member and constituency etiquette explains the conventions that have developed as a result of the relationship between individual Members and their constituencies. It covers constituency casework, raising matters relating to another Member’s constituency in the House, visits and speaking engagements in other constituencies, and local precedence.
