details A great opportunity exists to join the Shadow Home Secretary’s Office as a Parliamentary Researcher, based in the House of Commons in Westminster.

Responsibilities include:

  • Rapid, accurate and detailed research on a wide range of Home Affairs issues;
  • Advising on Parliamentary procedure and Home Affairs legislation, including proposals in the Queen’s Speech;
  • Advising on and preparing written Parliamentary Questions;
  • Reviewing Hansard;
  • Responding to Home Affairs correspondence (letters and emails);
  • Reviewing and advising on lengthy reports under time pressure;
  • Advising on and drafting statements, policy documents, articles and speeches;
  • Note-taking and attending Parliamentary Select Committees;
  • Miscellaneous constituency research;
  • Preparing for events and conferences, including briefing and logistics; and
  • Liaising with think-tanks, NGOs and other interlocutors.

    The ideal candidate would be:

  • Enthusiastic, hard-working and a flexible team player;
  • Well organized with strong self-managements skills; and
  • Calm under pressure.

    The ideal candidate would have:

  • A 2:1 or above university degree;
  • 6 to 18 months relevant professional experience working in Parliament, Government, the private sector and/or for an NGO; and
  • Prior experience advising on legislation.
