A great opportunity exists to join the Shadow Home Secretary’s Office as a Parliamentary Researcher, based in the House of Commons in Westminster.
Responsibilities include:
Rapid, accurate and detailed research on a wide range of Home Affairs issues;
Advising on Parliamentary procedure and Home Affairs legislation, including proposals in the Queen’s Speech;
Advising on and preparing written Parliamentary Questions;
Reviewing Hansard;
Responding to Home Affairs correspondence (letters and emails);
Reviewing and advising on lengthy reports under time pressure;
Advising on and drafting statements, policy documents, articles and speeches;
Note-taking and attending Parliamentary Select Committees;
Miscellaneous constituency research;
Preparing for events and conferences, including briefing and logistics; and
Liaising with think-tanks, NGOs and other interlocutors.
The ideal candidate would be:
Enthusiastic, hard-working and a flexible team player;
Well organized with strong self-managements skills; and
Calm under pressure.
The ideal candidate would have:
A 2:1 or above university degree;
6 to 18 months relevant professional experience working in Parliament, Government, the private sector and/or for an NGO; and
Prior experience advising on legislation.
